Comedic Improv and Acting teacher.
I am a former actress having attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for three years, and later finished my BA at the New School for Social Research.
I fell into improv class on a dare! Unlike many performers, I can be very shy, and to be truthful suffer from a bit of social anxiety, so the idea of improvising in front of an audience scared me! I guess because I knew that following that fear might help me, I decided to enroll in class at Gotham City Improv. Since that first class I've become a fan!
I always wanted to be a writer, but was too lazy. In improv you can perform and write simultaneously! Instant gratification, what's better than that?
It is my firm belief that anyone can improvise. And anyone can benefit from learning to improvise. So often in my life when I've come to a crossroads, I've thought of the great Del Close and challenged myself to "Follow the Fear".
I've taught improv since 2001 at Gotham City Improv and Broadway Classroom. I've used improv to develop my own shows, BEHIND THE MUSICAL, ECHOES THEATER PROJECT, and others. I love teaching and find that whether teaching acting or improv, the basis is the same- truth. Be brave, be truthful and follow the fear!
